The opening of the sequel exhibition to last year’s ‘Perception’ was attended by over 300 people.

Perception: Postscripts, this year’s Malta Society of Arts exhibition, is currently on show at the society’s premises in Valletta. The exhibition is delivering on its promise to bring to the fore new artists, along with many established ones. This interesting cross-section of artistic works is open for viewing until the end of August 2019.

Perception: Postscripts is a sequel to Perception, the enormously successful MSA Members’ exhibition of 2018. The work revolved around sensorial themes, assimilated from the artistic European project AMuSE, co-funded by the EU Commission and led by the MSA. This year’s edition is based on the same concept and marks the closure of the project. Around 50 members have been involved in the exhibition, which was once again curated and directed by Roderick Camilleri.

These past two years have seen the consolidation of a first-time experiment involving MSA members, whereby a theme was put forward for the participating members to work upon, disclosing and expressing their personal and creative flair in the process. It also allows their work to be exhibited to the public in the respective exhibitions.

“The MSA Members Exhibition is a fruitful incentive for all members, providing them with a constant creative stimulus for innovative research and artistic expression,” says Mr Camilleri. “For these two editions we focused on roping in members in a very dynamic way. They were asked to project their ideas and develop research and artwork inspired by the international project. This process required a considerable amount of work and input from all involved. The artists were invited to attend regular resourceful workshops, during which discussions helped develop inventive artistic research processes. This aided and challenged each individual especially in the realisation of the final works. It has been all about using new modalities to self-express in novel ways.

“I believe the results speak for themselves and we are now thrilled to be sharing them with the public.”

Perception: Postscripts is currently on show at the MSA, Palazzo de La Salle, 219 Republic Street, Valletta, and it will remain open for public viewing until August 31. The opening hours are Monday and Friday from 8am to 7pm; Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 8am to noon, and 3pm to 6pm and Saturday from 9am to 1.30pm.
