Sunrise, the critically-acclaimed comedy penned by Harry Potter actor Jessie Cave, is soon to be staged for in Malta the first time by FM Theatre Productions.

Touted by the Guardian (UK) as ‘devastatingly honest, wickedly funny’, Sunrise is a tender-hearted and uproariously funny story about crying in the woods, sexual accidents, Harry Potter conventions and Instagram espionage – as well as motherhood and trying to get stuff done.

For its debut production in Malta, Sunrise is being staged by FM Theatre Productions, the same company behind other local smash-hit productions such as My Fair Lady, Mamma Mia! & We Will Rock You. Directed by Chiara Hyzler, the show will star Rebecca Camilleri and will be performed inside the intimate setting of The Splendid in Valletta.

“I’m very excited to be directing Sunrise. It’s a script that is entertaining, relevant and hilarious, all rolled into one. Everyone is going to be able to relate to one or more of the characters we come across in the story,” explains Chiara Hyzler.

“It’s a pleasure to be working with FM Theatre again, who are always very welcoming and supportive in terms of my ideas and concepts, and are very much on the same page when it comes to comedy. Plus, Rebecca is lovely to work with, bringing great ideas and an open mind into the room, which will help make this production a fantastic and hilarious one.”

Luke Mercieca of FM Theatre Productions agrees. “We’re very excited to be working with two of Malta’s finest talents. We’ve wanted Chiara to direct a play for us for some time, and we finally found the perfect script and the perfect actor. Rebecca is probably one of Malta’s finest actors – so it really is an honour to work with them both on this gem of a play.”

Penned by actor, comedian, writer and cartoonist Jessie Cave, who is best known for her role as Lavender Brown in the Harry Potter film series, Sunrise is comic storytelling of the highest order, as she shares stories about dating again after a complex break-up and trying to get her personal life in order, all before her kids wake up.

Sunrise has been performed as a live show at Soho Theatre, London, at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, and on tour around the UK, with critics describing it as ‘an exquisite show from one of the more creative minds in comedy today… painfully funny, hilariously sad and makes oversharing a thing of comic genius.’

Tickets for Sunrise are priced at €20 and are very limited, so book yours today via email on fmtbooking@gmail.com or by calling the ticket hotline on 9904 8169.
